SEQUENT PUSHES SYMMETRYs AS IDEAL OBJECT DEVELOPMENT MACHINES

By CBR Staff Writer

Sequent Computer Systems Inc has initiated an Object Technology partnership programme, believing that its Symmetry 2000 series of multiprocessing database systems are well-suited to the creation of a large-scale object-oriented development environment. The first members of the programme are Instantiations Inc, ParcPlace Systems Inc, Taylor Consulting Inc, Reusable Solutions Inc, Tigre Object Systems Inc and Versant Object Technology Inc, each of which will implement its object technology on Sequent systems. Training and consultancy for applying object-oriented technology on the Sequent machines is available under the programme. And early next year, Sequent will release its own object-oriented software, Ptx/Object, which, it is thought, may bring Sequent a chunk of the $1,300m Small Multiuser Contract for the Department of Defense: a subcontractor has been negotiating with Sequent for two years to develop object-oriented technology for the project.
