Unisys Corp has now completed the sale of its Santa Clara hard disk assembly, manufacturing and refurbishment operations – the former Memorex plant – to a group of managers led by Michael Haltom, on undisclosed terms, although Unisys is believed to have helped finance the buy-out. The new Sequel Inc employs over 600 former Unisys staffers who have, on average, 10 years of working experience in the industry. Its dowry includes a long-term contract with Unisys to supply a variety of new and refurbished head-disk assemblies for Unisys 14 disk drive products. Sequel also has a separate head-disk assembly supply agreement with an other disk drive manufacturer, and will sell single-oxide disks to other drive manufacturers. Sequel is presently leasing from the Santa Clara factory building from Unisys.
