Sendmail Inc has won $6m in venture funding from Silicon Valley investment club, the Band of Angels. The club includes Sun veterans Bill Joy, Andy Bechtolsheim and Novell CEO Eric Schmidt. Sendmail was formed in March by Eric Allman and Greg Olson to provide commercial versions and support services to the open- source Unix mail server they wrote in the seventies, which is also called sendmail (CI No 3,373). The first product from Sendmail-the-company is expected in October. Even so, Allman and Olson can already claim an enviable installed base. It’s estimated that litte-s sendmail runs 75% of all internet mail servers.
