The organization predicted at last year’s autumn forecast session that the semiconductor market would grow by 2.6% in 2002 over 2001.

The spring session predicted 2.3% growth of 2002 over 2001, attaining $142 billion for worldwide semiconductor sales in 2002.

The WSTS predicts the recovery to positive growth rates will happen slowly, and only the Asia Pacific region will show positive growth in 2002, whilst Japan, Americas and Europe will have to wait until 2003 to record significant positive growth.

The WSTS represents 90% of the world’s semiconductor industry.

It issues forecasts twice a year, in May and October.
