The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International trade association for the semiconductor equipment and materials industry is forecasting a much improved 1988 for its members. The association polls more than 200 member companies around the world for its forecasts, and says that figures show an escalating backlog, as orders steadily rise on the back of the positive book-to-bill ratios being reported by the association for the users of the equipment, the Semiconductor Industry Association. There is however concern among the equipment makers that the Sematech research co-operative will benefit chipmakers, but not capital equipment makers.
