Seiko Epson Co has launched the PC386, a 32-bit workstation based on the 80386 with performance claimed to be 50% higher than the comparable offering from rival NEC Corp, and ships start next month: price for 40Mb hard disk model is $6,400; at the same time, the company also announced the PC286 LE, a laptop to be available late next year; the machine has full software compatibility with NEC’s laptop and uses a MIM active matrix mode color liquid crystal diode display; price for the PC286 LE laptop will be around $7,000.
