SEIKO EPSON HAS NEW NEC PC-9000 COMPATIBLE LAPTOP

By CBR Staff Writer

Seiko Epson Corp has a new NEC PC-9800compatible laptop, offering it in three models as the Epson PC-286L STD-S, STD-N and H10-N: the machines come with 256Kb of graphic memory, a VDU interface and is compatible with PC-9801UV model, for which most of the Japanese personal computer software has been written; key selling point over the NEC original is that NEC’s laptop has a smaller graphic memory that cannot handle PC-9801 series graphics applications; the machines come with 640Kb main memory, and use a 10MHz version of NEC’s uPD70116 microprocessor; the two standard models come with two 3.5 floppies and two expansion slots, while the H10-N adds a 10Mb hard disk, but only has one expansion slot; the STD-S at $2,400 has green super-twist liquid crystal display, while the $2,600 STD-N and the $3,520 H10-N each have paper-white neo twist neumatic LCDs with three times the contrast; Seiko is hoping that come April it will have sold 20,000.
