Sega Enterprises Ltd appears to have upgraded the games machine it is developing around chips from Hitachi Ltd (CI No 2,219) to 64-bit from the previously-announced 32-bit: it now says it will start selling a super-powerful video game machine by the end of next year, ahead of its rival Nintendo Co Ltd, which is planning to release a similar product at the end of 1995; tentatively called Saturn, it will offer colourful, detailed graphics and fast-moving game play and the machine is being developed and will be marketed jointly with Hitachi Ltd, Japanese Victor Co Ltd – supplying compact disk mechanisms, and Yamaha Corp; Sega says it will also seek assistance from film makers and publishers for development of new software for Saturn.
