Sega Enterprises Ltd said Thursday that it has acquired San Rafael, California-based video game developer Visual Concepts Entertainment Inc. The deal has been in the works since Sega bought a significant minority stake in the company in October of 1997. Sega now assumes full control of VCE and its president, Gregory Thomas, will take on the job of VP of product development for Sega of America. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Visual Concepts is currently developing several titles for Sega’s new Dreamcast console, due out in the US in September. Sega says it will expand operations at the company and will hire additional employees.
