SEAGATE SOFTWARE SHIPS HOLOS 5.0

By CBR Staff Writer

Seagate Software Inc is now shipping version 5.0 of Holos Business Intelligence software with improved data mining technology and intelligent agents – background processes set up to monitor specific events. Version 5.0 is the first update of Holos since Seagate acquired Holistic Systems Ltd last month for $84m cash (CI No 2,938). Holos is a high end business intelligence system that accesses and analyzes data from data warehouses. Holistic says the new version’s data mining capability uses neural network technology and is an embedded feature in 5.0 so that users don’t have to call up a separate file. Another new feature is the ability to set up both the client and the NT server on a single PC or notebook. The system also has better support for Lotus Notes, Lotus spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel, according to the company. Holistic said Holos has about 1,100 customer sites in 30 countries which are predominantly global 2,000 firms. Expect Seagate to make further announcements regarding Holos when Holistic Systems co-founder Derek Taylor and Seagate executives go on the road to promote the way they’ll integrate Holos with Seagate’s Crystal query and reporting product line to stretch from large-scale deployments down to desktops.
