Seagate Technology Inc, Scotts Valley, California yesterday confirmed plans to establish a $50m plant to manufacture high-end disk drives in the Dublin area, with the usual set of grants and inducements from the Industrial Development Authority – in grateful thanks for the firm’s commitment to create over 650 jobs in the first two years of plant operation with the potential for another 650 over the next five years.Seagate plans to invest some $20m on land and facilities and another $30m on capital equipment and tooling over the five-year period. It will make high-end drives like the Imprimis Wren 5 and Wren 6, the Sabre 6, the Elite and ST1480 family of high-capacity 3.5 products, as well as the ST1096 family from the firm’s mid-range product line.
