Seagate Technology Inc is making a sheaf of product and partnership announcements in anticipation of Comdex, and the new additions include its first 2.5 drives. The ST9096A, ST9051A and ST9025A offer formatted capacities of 84Mb, 41Mb and 21Mb with 20mS average seek time and embedded AT interface. Other features include pre-fetch cache, user-programmable four-phase power management system and embedded servo with adaptive positioning said to virtually eliminate positioning errors. In OEM quantities, the ST9051A and ST9025A cost $385 and $325 respectively, while the ST9096A is $585. Samples of the first two arrive first quarter 1991, volume the second, the ST9096A will be available in the second half. The ST3120A is an embedded 3.5 AT drive with 107Mb formatted capacity, 18mS seek time and maximum internal transfer rate of 12Mbits per second. It’s $495 in volume from January. The Elite ST41520N and ST41600N are two new 5.25 1.6Gb SCSI disk drives. The first has a dual-port interface so that two computers can share access to common disk drives, 11.2mS seek time, 1.7mS track-to-track, and internal transfer rate between 3Mb and 4Mb per second. The ST41600N has either single-ended or differential SCSI-2 interfaces and a 256Kb multi-segment cache for 5Mb per second transfer rate on the SCSI bus. Each is $3,000 and will be available in volume next month. The WrenRunner 2 and Wren 8 are 5.25 766Mb Winchesters, and the WrenRunner 2 has a data transfer rate of 24Mbits per second, average latency of 6.25mS, 11.9mS seek time, 2.5mS track-to-track. The Wren 8 stores a formatted 1,420Mb, has 15mS seek time and transfers at between 17Mbits and 32Mbits per second; it’s $2,060 in OEM quantities; the Wren 8 is $2,650; volume next month. The 3.05Gb Sabre ST83050 two-headed parallel drive, the 3.2Gb single-head ST83220, and the ST8167 Solid State Disk complete the line-up: the Sabres are 8 drives with data transfer rates of 10Mb per second; the ST83220 is $6,495, January; the ST83050 is $7,125, March. The ST8167 achieves a data access rate of 0.15mS with data storage of 167Mb. It has internal battery and 3.5 drive for back-up; available now, no price.
