With contracts from the Portuguese and Norwegian meteorological offices, SD-Scicon Plc’s sales of its meteorological systems passed the UKP5m mark in 1988 following earlier contracts with the German weather service Deutscher Wetterdienst, and the Swedish weather service Sveriges Meteorologiska och Hydrologiska Institut, worth respectively UKP2.6m and UKP1.7m each: the UKP400,000 Portuguese contract with the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologica e Geofisca is for a MicroVAX-based system to provide meteorological communications for sending data to and receiving it from the World Meteorological Organisation’s Global Telecommunications System; the Norwegian contract worth, UKP300,000, is with Det Norsk Meteorologika Institutt for a system to run on Tandem Computers Inc EXT 10 computers.
