SCO UP ON ON MERCED EMULATORS

By CBR Staff Writer

Santa Cruz Operation Inc’s testing its 64-bit Gemini Unix work on Merced simulators. Intel Corp says UnixWare – the name under which Gemini will be productized – is strategic and along with Windows NT the only operating system software it’s investing in for Merced. We haven’t heard what kind of performance SCO’s squeezing out of the simulators, although Sparc house Sun Microsystems Inc – also SCO’s Unix-on-Intel rival – has been spooked by some of the simulation numbers it’s rubbed up against according to our sister paper ClieNT Server News. SCO OEMS say Intel’s noises are an important re-affirmation of its support for SCO now that the latter’s relationship with Hewlett-Packard Co on future Unix development has all but fallen by the wayside.
