Scitex Ltd of Israel is set to release its Lotem range of products for the print process industry. Scitex has led the pre- press industry in the past through an evolutionary process that has consistently cut the number of stages needed in printing. Lotem represents a system that will enable a desk-top publisher application to connect directly to a machine that produces metal plates used in printing presses. Field trials have been under way in the US, Europe and Israel and are nearing completion. The company claims advance orders of $70m for the products which have been developed at the company’s Graphic Arts Division. Each unit will cost in the region of $350,000. The company went through a large-scale reorganization that has helped a recovery following a number of difficult years.
