Huntsville, Alabama-based SCI Systems Inc has firmed up its plans for a third European plant to complement those in Ireland and Scotland, finalising its agreement to acquire – on undisclosed terms – the assets of Hewlett-Packard Co’s Surface Mount Centre in Grenoble as a first step in establishing its French manufacturing base; the deal was announced at the turn of the year (CI No 2,324), and Hewlett-Packard will buy from SCI a substantial portion of its printed-circuit board assemblies for use by several of its European operations; the majority of the employees at the centre will transfer to the new SCI-run facility, which will initially remain at the current site until SCI’s planned new Grenoble facilities are ready early in 1995.
