SAP UK & Ireland has announced that Schaltbau, a supplier of electromechanical products for traffic engineering and industrial applications, has selected SAP Business ByDesign offering for its UK operations.
Schaltbau Machine Electrics managing director Philip Hutchinson said their twenty year old Unix based system that supports business processes was becoming increasingly out of date and the support was also expiring.
"We were impressed with the Business ByDesign browser interface and the fact that we don’t need to have servers on premise," Hutchinson said.
"As a small company, it is important that we save money and time wherever possible so having SAP manage our IT system works perfectly for us.
"We anticipate we will have timely access to information across the organisation to allow us to make accurate, speedy decisions we have never been able to do before."
SAP United Kingdom & Ireland director of SME Stephen Read said because Business ByDesign offering is a full SaaS suite, they are able to support not only the sales, finance and HR functions in Schaltbau’s head office in Stockport, but they will also be able to manage the manufacturing processes in Wales and provide an integrated system across both sites to ensure the team has accurate information.

"The head office in Germany currently uses SAP R3 and they were keen for us to go with SAP," Read said.
"The team is monitoring to see how this implementation goes and if it’s successful, they may roll out SAP Business ByDesign to other subsidiaries."
