Satya Nadella echoes Steve Ballmer in déjà vu opening comments

Nadella reiterates Ballmer’s strategy for hardware and cloud services.

By Ben Sullivan

Satya Nadella, in his first public comments since becoming the new CEO of Microsoft, has practically echoed Ballmer’s statements of intent for the direction Microsoft is heading in.

Nadella was answering questions from Susan Hauser, vice president of the worldwide enterprise partner group. In the webcast, Nadella repeated what Ballmer targeted as the company’s challenges and the methods it will use to overcome them.

In short, Microsoft wants to adapt its offerings to providing more devices and cloud services, so it must create a strategy that will put these two sectors at the forefront.

Nadella urged the embracement of BYOD, meeting the needs of Microsoft’s end users both at home and at work. On top of these two things, Microsoft’s software must remain successful and ensure the quality of those BYOD devices and services, said Nadella.

"The key for future success is for Microsoft to identify what technologies and products it has the resources and knowledge to create that no one else in the industry is able to replicate," he said.

"We defintely have a devices and services strategy that’s going to come together creating seamless experiences and creating great experiences for IT."

In an open letter that Nadella penned yesterday on his appointment, he said: "As we look forward, we must zero in on what Microsoft can uniquely contribute to the world.

"The opportunity ahead will require us to reimagine a lot of what we have done in the past for a mobile and cloud-first world, and do new things. We are the only ones who can harness the power of software and deliver it through devices and services that truly empower every individual and every organization."
