Business intelligence company SAS has said that it is seeing continuous growth in Scotland, despite the current downturn and the ongoing squeeze on public sector investment.

The company is planning to hire an additional 15 staff in the East Kilbride region to support its public security business unit and to make a further investment in its facilities including upgrades to its existing offices in the town.

Through its public security business unit, SAS offers its products to the law enforcement community across Scotland designed to help improve intelligence processes, enhance public safety and prevent and deter crime, terrorism and other threats.

The company said that its focus on growth has helped it to grow rapidly despite the decline in Scotland manufacturing.

SAS UK & Ireland managing director Ian Manocha said, "Our focus on growth is helping to counter ongoing decline in Scottish manufacturing."

"In line with Alex Salmond’s focus on growing Scottish jobs, recruits are typically drawn from the Scottish talent pool, including many of the country’s leading universities."

SAS’ success in the region is built on the Memex brand. SAS acquired Memex in June 2010, and has now created a public security business unit, with the Memex intelligence solution a core part of the SAS public security framework.

Manocha also attributed the company’s commitment to innovation for its success.

"Our strong technology focus is backed by a robust commitment to R&D within the west of Scotland, which will require ongoing investment, and will also be a source of job creation within the local area," said Manocha.

"This focus will also help us to ensure a continuous stream of innovative public security solutions to meet ever more sophisticated market needs."
