SAP’s new software to assist users in customising apps for mobile devices

New software allows users to modify applications for mobile devices

With a growing number of companies adopting BYOD, SAP is planning to release new version of its Sybase Unwired Platform at an upcoming TechEd conference in Madrid, US to be held in November 2012, which will enable the user to customise applications for handheld devices.

According to the firm, the new software will feature tools that assist developers generate applications and sell them via SAP’s online store.

SAP is also planning to launch an online development tool, known as Neo, which will allow firms tailor the appearance of SAP applications on smartphones, tablet and personal computers.

SAP co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Hagemann Snabe was quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the next wave will be an expansion of mobile apps for business.

"The key is to open up," Snabe added.

SAP revealed that about 100 software developers are currently taking part in a pilot of its online store, and the number is expected to be boosted following the release of new tools.

German Enterprise software maker is expected to report 13% rise in its sales in 2012 to EUR16.1bn and its mobile-device software revenue is expected to generate EUR220m during the year.

According to a report, software for tablets and smartphones may form 8% of SAP’s license and subscription revenue by 2015, which is twice its percentage in 2012.
