Cambridge, Massachusetts-based systems integration firm Sapient Corp has acquired Adjacency Inc, a San Francisco-based consultancy firm, in a deal worth around $50m based on Sapient’s closing price on Monday. Four-year-old Adjaceny has 57 employees. Sapient issued 990,675 shares of its common stock to shareholders in return for all outstanding stock options. The company will operate as a division of Sapient following the acquisition.

Adjacency provides internet strategy, interactive design, technology development and internet management and e-commerce services. Its clients include brand names such as Virgin Entertainment, Nordstrom, Caterpillar and Land Rover. Sapient spent $16m acquiring the consulting and services integration operation Exor Technologies Inc at the end of 1997 to expand its enterprise resource planning business, and last year acquired San Francisco brand consulting and design house Studio Archetype Inc for $15m. Sapient says it is putting the elements in place for a full range of e-business transformation services. รก
