SAP America Inc yesterday added another application to its line up of vertical industry software offerings, this time aimed at the automotive industry. The application was introduced as part of the company’s Accelerated SAP initiative, designed for businesses looking for a fast, tailored SAP implementation. The Accelerated Automotive solution is based on SAP R/3, pre- configured with the most frequently used business processes, from production planning and procurement to sales and distribution, required by automotive suppliers. Individual components include: customer demand management, manufacturing resource planning and repetitive manufacturing, shipping control, receipt settlement and retro billing.
SAP said it had partnered with numerous automotive OEMs, customers, value-added resellers and consultants to ensure the application is as tightly tailored to the car industry’s needs as possible. By using its Preconfigured System tools to assemble the most frequently used automotive supplier business standards, SAP said the software helps companies of all sizes to lower implementation time and costs. It cited one company, Teksid Aluminum Foundry, which was able to cut costs by implementing the solution in just twelve weeks. The solution also includes a easy to use description of the setup processes which will allow companies to spend less time configuring the software and more time tailoring the implementation to match their individual business needs.
Accelerated Automotive is the third vertical application SAP has launched since the start of its Accelerated Solutions program in 1998. The first two were aimed at the high tech and consumer products industry. SAP said additional offerings will be announced in the coming months for various process and discrete manufacturing services and consumer industries.
