Stories about the complexity of SAP AG’s R/3 enterprise resource planning system are plentiful. So it is hardly surprising it is now an academic course, taught at City University in London and the German ERP vendor is investing $1m-worth of software and staff training.
Undergraduates studying for a BSc in Business Computing Systems will take the course, Business Engineering with ERP Systems, which will be taught by four academics. SAP has given 100 training days to the university’s staff, and technicians are even now being trained to use R/3.
The SAP investment is part of SAP’s Global Higher Learning Initiative, which the Walldorf firm claims includes over 200 universities worldwide. Other institutions in the UK where SAP has made its mark include Cranfield Institute of Technology, Sheffield Hallam University and Cardiff University, but SAP’s involvement at these three is thought to be focused more around the applications rather than actual R/3 implementations.
