The new search engine will form part of the next release of NetWeaver. Current technology only supports unstructured searching within data sources such as emails and documents, but the new release will mean this data will be able to be combined with core SAP data such as customer addresses, sales history, and sales status information residing in back-office systems, providing a more complete picture. It will help unlock valuable information, in context.
Although unstructured search capabilities are increasingly available, such as the Google desktop search facility, they remain unable to tap into enterprise data sources. SAP has an advantage because it owns the meta data for its enterprise applications.
