SAP originally introduced the Safe Passage program for PeopleSoft and JD Edwards customers following Oracle’s successful takeover campaign. It promised a package whereby it would provide support for customers’ existing implementations, a bridge between it and the SAP environment via NetWeaver, and support as they made the transition to SAP’s infrastructure. This has now been extended to the Retek customer base.
Under the retail Safe Passage program, SAP is offering a credit of up to 75% of the retailer’s original Retek software licensing fees when they buy licenses for software from the SAP for Retail portfolio. Also included are an on-site business case benefits assessment of migrating from Retek to SAP, a fixed-bid, modular-based, implementation plan following the assessment, and project team training for new customers.
SAP lost out to Oracle in a short but sharp bidding war for Retek earlier this year, so in addition to wanting to undermine Oracle, its ongoing interest in the Retek customer base is because it has targeted retail as an area of opportunity.
