The two giants have released the Portal Development Kit for Microsoft .NET, a development kit that can be used to integrate SAP NetWeaver and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.

The kit is provided as an add-in to the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 integrated development environment, and allows SAP customers to build content for the SAP Enterprise Portal, part of NetWeaver, using any supported development language, including Microsoft Visual C# and Microsoft Visual Basic .NET.

Using the kit, customers should be able to make use of the capabilities of the Microsoft .NET Framework to build interactive business content for SAP Enterprise Portal and have the content utilize key portal services, such as user management, SAP Single Sign On and specialized content.

According to SAP, developers will be able to build the user interface of interactive business content using any combination of standard SAP .NET controls and the NetWeaver’s user interface controls. The .NET portal business content can be deployed through SAP NetWeaver and the Portal Runtime for .NET that processes the .NET business content code and integrates the results in SAP Enterprise Portal.

The kit can be downloaded from the SAP Developer Network at www.sdn.sap.com.
