SAP has said that it will build a new innovation centre in Potsdam, Germany, where the company will develop new software offerings in cooperation with customers.

The company said it will invest €14.3m in the new location and create 100 new jobs.

The centre will focus on the deployment of the new in-memory computing technology introduced by the company, including its High-Performance Analytic Appliance (SAP HANA) software.

The technology enables new application scenarios and real-time analyses through the parallel processing of millions of customer records in a short time span, thus laying the groundwork for intelligent and user-friendly software offerings for the future.

The innovation centre will collaborate with universities in the Berlin/Brandenburg area, with close proximity to approximately 30 educational and research institutions.

In addition, the company will also extend its cooperation with the Potsdam-based Hasso Plattner Institute for Software Systems Engineering (HPI).

SAP Executive Board Member Vishal Sikka said that their new innovation centre in Potsdam will enable brilliant colleagues to create beautiful products and break amasing new ground, and to bring value to SAP in the future as well as to the broader community here.

SAP said that the building project is planned to start before the end of the year and is expected to be completed in 2012.
