Personal Handyphone System is an enhanced Telepoint system where you have to be very close to a base station to use it with the refinement that people near base stations can also receive calls, but now Sanyo Electric Co Ltd wants to make it a bit more like a proper phone by adding an answering capability and message-forwarding functions in a new model of phone. Out next month, the phone comes with a base unit which can forward messages to up to four different telephone numbers, and can also connect directly with a facsimile machine and with other devices such as answering machines. It will cost $635 and Sanyo aims to make 10,000 of the phones a month.
