Sanyo Electric Co Ltd has announced a new 350,000 pixel digital camera aimed at the consumer market. The camera, called the DSC- V100, is based around an own-brand, single chip integrated circuit which includes a 32-bit RISC processing unit. The camera offers a variety of multimedia functions. It allows medium and low resolution video playback, five seconds in 320×240 pixel mode and ten seconds in 160×120 pixel mode – the playback function is intended to allow users to add simple video clips to web pages. Optional extras include camera-to-PC link-up software and the ability for camera’s internal SmartMedia card to be ‘read’ by an outboard 3.5 inch floppy disk drive. The camera will go on sale from June 1 in Japan, the company has no plans yet to launch it worldwide. The DSV-V100 is priced at 58,000 yen.
