The former AT&T Global Information Solutions executives Alok Mohan and David McCrabb, now running Santa Cruz Operation Inc, are to step up the next phase of the company’s much-vaunted Windows-friendly strategy soon – although a ‘back to basics’ campaign will at the same time focus on preserving the company’s installed base of Unix-on-iAPX-86 – presumably set to come under fire from a renewed Novell Inc effort in that field – and Santa Cruz Operation’s traditional small-to-medium size business heartland. As previously indicated, it will be using its subsidiaries, Visionware Ltd and IXI Ltd’s technologies as a lever. As well as developing middleware for integrating more closely with other Unix servers, it is looking to rival Windows NT as a server and database system for users developing applications for Windows or character-based front-ends. It has Chorus Systemes SA to enhance additional microkernel technologies that will appeal to telecommunications providers and others.
