SANTA CRUZ CONSIDERS ADOPTION OF COMBINED SYSTEM V.4.2 ES/MP…

By CBR Staff Writer

Santa Cruz Operation Inc, which bit the ideological Unix bullet, although not all of the System V.4 technology, last summer, is thought to be eyeing Unix System Laboratories Inc’s combined Unix System V.4.2 ES/MP release for future use, although that could be as far as two years out. Santa Cruz has argued that price is not an issue in its decision on whether to adopt System V.4, rather the decision is dependent on Unix Labs meeting certain technology requirements, in multiprocessing for example, where Santa Cruz already has its successful MPX Unix-add on. A combined Unix System V.4.2 ES/MP will apparently fulfill enough conditions for Santa Cruz to bring its MPX users over to System V.4 as well.
