Samsung has unveiled a business card sized, portable solid state drive (SSD), which can store up to a terabyte of content.

Dubbed Portable SSD T1, the device is designed for speed and security without sacrificing style, according to Samsung.

Apart from the 1TB of storage capacity, the device will also be available in 250GB and 500GB variants.

Portable SSD T1 has been built with the company’s 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology and has sequential read/write speeds of up to 450 megabytes per second (MB/s) along with USB 3.0 super speed interface. It also boasts random read/write speeds of 8,000 inputs/outputs per second (IOPS) and 21,000 IOPS respectively.

The write speed of the new device is 100 times faster than an external hard disk drive and it is capable of transferring a 3GB movie file in eight seconds.

Samsung has used AES 256-bit hardware encryption to protect the content in the device and users can also set password to protect the data from spying eyes.

Samsung Senior Vice President of Memory Business Unsoo Kim said: "The Portable SSD T1 allows users to store their entire digital portfolio locally in one place, take it with them anywhere and have blazing fast access to their data, all without worrying about reliability or security."

"The Portable SSD T1 overcomes the drawbacks of alternative options on every major pain point, making it the next external storage device of choice."
