The company’s 16Gb NAND flash technology promises to make it easier to store vast amounts of data on portable devices and would enable the design of 32Gb memory cards, the company said. A 32Gb card would be able to store either 200 years of an average daily newspaper or 32 hours of high-resolution video footage on a mobile device, Samsung said.
With cards containing multiple 16Gb flash memory chips, you will be able to take your entire music and personal video libraries with you on one small portable device, said Chang-Gyu Hwang, Samsung Electronics chief executive, at a press conference yesterday.
Samsung’s new NAND technology, which is the most widely used memory for multi-feature mobile applications, was developed using its latest 50-nanometer manufacturing technology, the company said.
Seoul, South Korea-based Samsung said it plans volume production of its 16Gb NAND in the second half of 2006.
