SAMSUNG TO INVEST $900M TO BUILD ITS FIRST FLAT PANEL PLANT

By CBR Staff Writer

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has begun construction on a thin-film transistor liquid crystal display plant, embarking on a $900m investment over two years. It is the company’s third flat-panel plant; based in Chonan, south of Seoul, it will start up in mid- 1998 and will be capable of processing 30,000 23.6 by 28.3 glass substrates a month. That size yields six 13.3 Extended Graphics Array displays from one substrate.
