SAMSUNG TO BEGIN MASS PRODUCION OF LATEST ALPHA CPU

By CBR Staff Writer

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said last week it is ready to start mass-producing version three of its high-end Alpha processors. The Korean company will begin shipping to its major client Compaq in December 1998. The South Korean company claims this latest version of its Alpha CPU is twice as fast as the previous one which had a clock speed of 1GHz. The company also says that the new chip can fully support Windows NT and other operating systems. Samsung says it will sell over $3m worth of the product in December alone and is aiming at achieving $100m in sales in 1999, but could not give any examples of firm sales.
