Samsung Co Ltd is to form a partnership with Silicon Storage Technology Inc to make non volatile memory microchip products. Samsung is to use the Sunnyvale, California company’s SuperFlash technology to develop memory-embedded microcontrollers. The companies will focus on wireless communications, portable computing and consumer based System-on-a-Chip applications, in a collaboration on memory card products. Under the terms of the agreement, Silicon Storage will gain access to Samsung’s process technology and manufacturing capabilities to develop Applications-Specific Integrated Circuit chips. Silicon Storage’s SuperFlash technology is low voltage, small sector block technology that enables non-volatile embedded applications to operate much more reliably and with greater flexibility. It is particularly suited to products such as data converters, mixed signal peripheral integrated circuits, digital signal processor core and system-on-a-chip products used in programming and data storage.
