The company claims that the series 5 graphics double-data-rate (GDDR) graphics memory chip has 32 input and output channels, processes up to 16 DVD quality videos, and saves 20% more in power consumption over the GDDR3 chips available in the market. The chips have been delivered to major graphic processor companies last month and are expected to go in to production by the first half of 2008.

According to the Reuters, Mueez Deen, marketing director of graphics memory at Samsung Semiconductor said: Samsung’s 512Mb GDDR5 will enable the kind of graphics hardware performance that will spur software developers to deliver a new level of eye-popping games.

The company expects the chip to be used in game consoles or high-definition video devices.

The news follows a month after Samsung’s rival Hynix developed the largest one gigabit GDDR5 graphics DRAM and Qimonda shipped the GDDR5 memory devices in sample volumes.
