Motorola Inc has a number of separate Personal Digital Assistant projects, and one of them has caught the eye of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Seoul. Samsung has decided to develop a machine and software around a Dragon Ball microprocessor developed by Motorola – presumably the Dragon I/68349 used in Motorola’s Envoy communicator, which runs the Magic Cap operating system from General Magic Corp. Motorola will also provide technical support. It hopes to unveil a prototype by August and begin commercial production early next year, initially going after the US market, which it reckons will be worth $1,000m next year; it sees the world market for the handheld devices growing at 30% annually to reach $4,500m by 1998.
