South Korea’s Samsung Display Devices Co, world number one in cathode ray tubes, plans to build six more plants around the world by 2000, with Shenzhen, China and Manaus, Brazil already chosen. The other countries chosen are the UK, India and a Commonwealth of Independent States country, plus a second Chinese plant in Tianjin. The company claims 18% market share this year and says it aims for 24% in 2000.The firm currently has six plants – three back home in South Korea and one each in Germa ny, Malaysia and Mexico. The company says it will stress the more profitable larger sizes – over 15 for monitors and over 25 for tubes for televisions.
