The South Korean consumer electronics giant has licensed Superscape Group Plc’s [SPS.L] ARM Swerve i3D Graphics Client technology, which it jointly developed with mobile chip designer ARM Holdings Ltd [ARM.L], for a new series of Linux-based Samsung SmartPhones to be launched before the end of the year.

Samsung’s decision means that the company will soon offer handsets based on all the major smart phone operating systems, with devices based on Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, and Palm OS also in the pipeline.

While it is unclear where Samsung intends to sell its Linux phones, Linux is available in an English-language variation, suggesting that the devices may not be restricted to the Southeast Asian market.
