Samsung wins US court orders to access details of Apple-HTC deal

Samsung requested details regarding the patents that were included in the agreement as there may be some associated with the ones already in case between them

By CBR Staff Writer

US based Apple has been ordered by a US judge to reveal all details of its deals with HTC to its rival South Korean firm Samsung, in response to recent plea by Samsung.

Apple and HTC have signed a 10-year licence agreement that enables both the firms to use their existing and future patents, a move which ends the legal battle that began in March 2010 between both the firms.

In its filing, Samsung requested details regarding the patents that were included in the agreement as there may be some associated with the ones deployed in the case between the firm and the US based iPhone maker.

Samsung also pointed out that the license would also bring into light on whether Apple included some of its ‘sole’ user experience patents.

In 2010, Apple claimed that HTC infringed its patented technology, which has also overwhelmed rivals including Samsung and Google’s Motorola Mobility.

However in August 2012, Apple also won $1.051bn in a patent suit against Samsung which was alleged of violating six of seven US based firm’s patents for smartphones.

In October, Apple lost its appeal against a UK ruling that Samsung had not violated its design rights and was ordered to publish that Samsung had not copied copy iPad designs on its website.

Further, sales bans sought by Apple against Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus phone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the US were also removed in the same month.
