Samsung unveils 4G Gear S3 smartwatches

They made it bigger and they say one model is more like a 4G phone.

Samsung revealed the launch of its fourth generation Gear smartwatch, The Gear S3. This model is designed larger than previous models.

The Gear S3 smartwatch was announced at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin features some iterative updates from the Gear S2. These include a bigger screen, GPS signal and a 4G-enabled model.

The company launched two additions, Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier. The Frontier model has built-in 4G capability which allows users to take calls and stream music independently from a smartphone, something Samsung says is a unique feature that has not been found in other smartwatches.

The Classic model is designed only with Bluetooth and Wifi connection. Samsung has claimed that both models with better battery life, lasting approximately three to four days on a single charge.

The Gear S3 is waterproof, made to last around 30 minutes under water. It is also compatible with Samsung Pay.

The product is expected to compare with the Apple Watch 2, due to be revealed alongside the IPhone 7 at the product launch event on September 7th.

Apple’s Watch 2 may also have GPS, a barometer and a larger battery. This is expected along with the addition of a waterproof feature and a faster processor.

The Gear S3 smartwatches are due to enter the market sometime later on in the year; therefore relevant changes can be made before then.
