Samsung is helping Apple build its forthcoming A8 processor which will power the iPhone maker’s future iOS powered devices
Samsung will make up to 40% of the new chips, while the remainder will be built by TSMC, according to a report by Korean publication Hankyung.
Another report revealed that Apple’s latest flagship iPhone 5s incorporates a 64-bit A7 microprocessor, which was built by Samsung.
Samsung has also built all previous processors in Apple’s A-range of microprocessors for the iPhone and iPad devices, which are based on Apple’s modification of ARM silicon.
The iPhone 5 also incorporates a NXP’s M7 co-processor, which helps to determine motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.
Last month Apple launched its most advanced iPhone, the new 5S, which runs on the new iOS 7 and incorporates the new A7 chip and 64-bit technology, boosting performance during opening apps, editing photos, as well as playing graphic-intensive games.
Both smartphone makers are also involved in several patent infringement battles across the world, while Apple has won $1.051bn in a patent suit against Samsung in 2012.
