Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A will now be sold in the UK.
The tablet from the South Korean electronics company will be available from 21 May. It is pitched at the family market, which has generally been dominated by Apple’s iPad.
At 7.5mm thick, the tablet features a 4:3 aspect ratio screen which optimises the format of web pages, e-books and e-magazines. It sports a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.
It is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad processor and carries either 1.5GB or 2GB RAM, depending on the model. It provides 16GB storage, with a Micro SD slot offering 128GB of external storage. It runs Android Lollipop.
The device comes in three different versions; the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and Galaxy Tab A 9.7 with S Pen both run on wi-fi while the Galaxy Tab A runs on 4G.
It also comes with a kids’ mode that can be downloaded through Galaxy Essentials. SideSync 3.0 allows Galaxy Tab A data to be shared between the tablet and a PC monitor, while Quick Connect allows customers to show videos from their tablet on the Samsung Smart TV. The device also carries a suite of pre-loaded Microsoft apps.
"The Galaxy Tab A has the power and performance our customers have come to expect from the Samsung Galaxy range, and with Wi-Fi, LTE and S Pen versions available we are offering people more choice when it comes to picking a device that best suits their lifestyle." commented Conor Pierce, Vice President IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland.
Pierce added: "Combining innovative functionality that makes it possible to tailor the tab experience for more than one person with a compact design – the Galaxy Tab A can be used anywhere, anytime. With a new screen ratio designed to optimise the viewing experience, the new Galaxy Tab A is the perfect tablet for people looking for an everyday device that works for them and their family."
