Samsung Electronics has filed a lawsuit against Huawei Technologies in China for allegedly violating six of its patents, escalating
The South Korean company’s move is seen as a counterstep against Huawei after the Chinese firm sued Samsung in May in the US and China over patent infringements.
Huawei accused Samsung of violating 12 patents for mobile devices and networks with a demand for reasonable compensation.
In its latest lawsuit, filed in Beijing’s Intellectual Property Court, Samsung is seeking damages of $24.1m, alleging that some of Huawei’s smartphones infringed on its patents.
The South Korean firm alleged that Huawei’s smartphones and tablets infringe on its six patents related to mobile phones and digital images.
The lawsuit also urged the court to block Huawei and another firm, Beijing Hengtongda Department Store, from manufacturing or selling the devices.
Samsung said in a statement that it had faithfully negotiated with other patent holders for the fair licensing of technology.

“However, despite our best efforts to resolve this matter amicably, it has regrettably become necessary to take legal action in order to defend our intellectual property.”
A Huawei spokesman said the company has not received a formal complaint.
“We will review any documentation and defend ourselves as appropriate when we do.”
Samsung is also engaged in a patent battle with Apple for over five years. The iPhone maker accused the South Korean firm of infringing its designs.
In 2012, a jury in California awarded Apple over $1bn in damages. Samsung has however tried to avoid paying damages to the iPhone maker and requested the US Supreme Court to re-examine the patent infringement lawsuit.
