Samsung is making a robot shaped like a gluteus maximus to sit on its upcoming Galaxy Note 4 smartphones as part of a series of stress tests in a move to avoid the backlash faced by Apple over the iPhone 6’s ‘BendGate’ debacle.
The company has created a 220-pound butt-shaped robot, which is even wearing jeans, to sit on some of its phones for a bend test.
Samsung posted the video on its corporate blog where the Galaxy Note 4 was tested, and the device came out without any damage when 220 pounds of butt was placed upon it. The company credited the device’s metal frame and magnesium bracket for its durability.
Tests from Consumer Reports showed that the Galaxy Note 3 was stronger than many phones in the same range as it could withstand up to 150 pounds of pressure, but beyond that weight, the phone was deformed with the display becoming separated.
In comparison, the iPhone 6 Plus deformed at 110 pounds and the iPhone 6 could not withstand weight beyond 100 pounds, Consumer Reports said.
Though the Galaxy 4 was able to withstand the butt test, it was previously reported that early adopters of the phone in South Korean and Chinese markets found a gap within the device’s frame. Samsung ruled out the reports, however, saying it was a feature and not a flaw.
