STC Plc has been holding talks with Olivetti & Co SpA about the possible sale of ICL to the Italian computer and office equipment group, it emerged on Friday afternoon. ICL has never sat easy with the rest of STC since the mainframer was acquired in 1984 by the previous management, and it was only late last year that STC started buying companies to bolster ICL. Sale of ICL abroad would generate an enormous political storm.
