Sage ERP X3 expands into cloud

US the first stop on the tour, confirms business software firm.

By Joe Curtis

Business software firm Sage is set to push its ERP X3 product into the cloud come September, with the US the first stop in a global rollout.

No dates have been set for other country launches, but the ERP player said it would target midmarket companies attracted to the potential cost savings of virtualising their deployments.

Sage ERP CEO Christoph Letellier admitted to CBR back at its annual conference in May that most of its customers aren’t interested in cloud ERP, but said it would be a "no-brainer" to make it an option.

Now Joe Langner, VP of midmarket solutions for Sage North America, said the US is a leading adopter of cloud – hence being picked for the first cloud launch.

"That’s why we’re rolling out our cloud version of Sage ERP X3 in this market first," he said. "Businesses now have a choice in how they wish to set up and pay for their business management system.

"Sage ERP X3 Online is the next logical step in our continued commitment to give businesses choice and the confidence to grow their business."

Sage launched version seven of ERP X3 back in May, including a new web interface based on HTML5 that supports multiple browsers and an adaptable UX, as well as mobile access and integration with Microsoft Office.

There is not yet any indication how Sage may work with third-party developers to add functionality to its cloud service.

Sage is placed behind SAP and Oracle as the third-biggest ERP vendor, with a 6% market share.

Tesco clubcard scheme provider Dunnhumby recently virtualised its back office, including ERP, into Oracle’s cloud.
