Jan and Paul Baan – the two brothers at the helm of Dutch-based business application software company Baan – have built up the company by the work ethic of low church Protestantism to which both are committed. At a recent press conference, however, journalists were astonished to hear Paul Baan launch into a bitter – and distinctly un-Christian – invective against the software industry. There’s so much vaporware in this industry, he ranted, as far as I’m concerned, it’s Saddam Hussein Information Technology – and that spells shit. It’s shit. However, when asked a week later about his comments, Paul Baan was curiously reticent to explain. I’m sorry, I can’t remember, he said.
