Graphics outfit S3 Inc has announced two products aimed at taking 3D beyond games to deliver tools for business PCs.VisiDrive 3D is a a visual file manager developed in partnership with Inxight Software Inc. LiveWork 3D was developed with Template Graphics Software Inc and adds real-time three dimensional text and graphics to email applications.The VisiDrive 3D software uses Inxight’s patented 3D user interface for navigating and managing PC file systems. It is designed to enhance the standard file management utilities included with Microsoft Corp’s Windows 95 and NT and provides a three dimensional view of files and directories on local and networked hard drives. The idea is to make disk management quicker and more intuitive by allowing users to visualize the information on their PCs. LiveWork 3D creates real-time 3D images and animation in documents, presentations, spreadsheets and email messages. A native add-on to Microsoft Office, Corel Office and Lotus SmartSuite, it is presented as a 3D toolbar from within the application so users don’t have to leave the open application to add 3D to a document. In addition, it automatically converts standard two dimensional clipart and PostScript files into 3D images.VisiDrive 3D and LiveWork 3D will be bundled with S3’s 3D graphics accelerators. They will be available to OEMs in December. LiveWork 3D will also be available separately with an expected list price of $50.
